A little about me, eh?
I am a freelance digital imaging specialist, web developer and general computer geek that has been immersed in the modern media industry for over 10 years.
With print, web and television experience, I believe that I am a knowledgeable and skilled practicioner. I'll be the first to admit that while I don't know everything about everything, chances are likely I've got a good informed opinion about a lot of things in the industry.
Being the only son of a music teacher who had a penchant for photography herself, I grew up in a creative environment with a mother that supported every creative adventure I undertook. And, did I ever undertake!! -Multiple orchestras, bands and choirs, piano, voice, guitar, photo club, school newspaper...if it had a creative slant to it, chances are I have been involved in it-
I have studied at both the University of New Brunswick (1991-95) and the University of Calgary (1996-97), receiving "official documents" along the way that since have collected dust in some long lost filefolder. I recall a few years back wondering if my time toiling in academia was of much use, being that my concentration -history- left me with few career choices.
Fortunately for me, I also tinkered in the wide world of computers along the way, starting with a grade eight Commodore-64 presentation on how LED (Light Emitting Diode) Displays function, to a Bulletin Board System (BBS) out of my dorm room in 1992, at UNB, to now... co-founder of CurlingZone.com, the largest curling portal on the Internet, and co-developer of ShotTracker Curling STATS, a stats software package that has been used in televised championship curling events around the world.
Curling has been beneficial to my photographic career advancement, as I have been able to travel to different regions around the world, and have had many unique photographic opportunities as a result of my travels. My curling photos have graced newspapers across the country and around the world, and have appeared on major Internet news portals as well. I have been fortunate to have experience working with major news outlets, broadcast teams and major event planning organizations during the course of my curling-related work, gaining valuable contacts inside the media world.
I've also been involved in many web projects ranging from dot calms to dot bombs, corporate to commercial, and artistic to just plain "out there", and have worked in both team and freelance environments. One of the benefits of working on so many web projects is it has allowed me to become good at many aspects of production - from design and photography, to animation, video and audio production, and lots of programming/development as well. I have been a pixel jockey for major Hollywood motion picutre studio web projects, have photographed and catalogued thousands of products for online ventures for Lululemon Athletica, Music Centre Canada and other smaller online retailers, have developed custom CMS tools for government organizations, and have photographed countless yogis and fitness practicioners.
My interests are wide and varied, and include (in no particular order): baseball, curling, yoga, photography, travel, music, NFL football, reading, writing, song writing, real estate, computers and the internet, and much much more.
When I'm not at my studio, I can usually be found in the cyber world!
